Wine with Tesh – A Somm’s View of Clarksburg

Tesh Diyal shares about Clarksburg

It is no secret that Clarksburg is known for its phenomenal Chenin Blanc. With its warm days, cool evening breezes, and healthy growing season, Clarksburg provides a beautiful terroir for several varieties of wine. However, we often overlook spectacular wines produced by winemakers thinking outside of the box. Look no further than the following producers.

Winemakers like Craig Haarmeyer, well known for his St. Rey Chenin Blanc, also produce a Nebbiolo that is worthy of attention made from grapes grown by the Heringer Family.

Winemaker David Ogilvie of Silt Wine Company is making a sparkling Pet Nat (Petillant Naturel), an unfiltered style of sparkling from Chenin Blanc grapes.

Or Heringer Estates, who is producing varietals that are unique and distinct in their own ways: Tannat, Teroldego, and Norton to name a few.

It is increasingly clear that Clarksburg as a wine region deserves our attention, our time, and our palettes.
